Song for a Sunday Night

This selection falls under the heading "one thing leads to another".  One of my recent "Songs for a Sunday Night"  featured Amanda Palmer who herself was an offshoot of my birthday post of Neil Gaiman (she being his  wife).  Well, I've been following Amanda's blog and in one post she tells about a recent incident where singer P.J. Harvey is in the audience for one of her shows.  Although Polly Jean has had a long and successful career I'll freely admit, though knowing her name, I don't know much about her music.

This is a recent song and video released about a year ago.  About the song.  PJ Harvey.net

"The Words That Maketh Murder"

I've seen and done things I want to forget;
I've seen soldiers fall like lumps of meat,
Blown and shot out beyond belief.
Arms and legs were in the trees.

I've seen and done things I want to forget;
coming from an unearthly place,
Longing to see a woman's face,
Instead of the words that gather pace,
The words that maketh murder.

These, these, these are the words-
The words that maketh murder.
These, these, these are the words-
The words that maketh murder.
These, these, these are the words-
Murder...

These, these, these are the words-
The words that maketh murder.

I've seen and done things I want to forget;
I've seen a corporal whose nerves were shot
Climbing behind the fierce, gone sun,
I've seen flies swarming everyone,
Soldiers fell like lumps of meat.

These are the words, the words are these.
death lingering, stunk,
Flies swarming everyone,
Over the whole summit peak,
Flesh quivering in the heat.
This was something else again.
I fear it cannot be explained.
The words that make, the words that make
Murder.

  1. PJ Harvey is pretty cool. I've been a fan of hers for a while, except I haven't actually heard this song before. Amanda Palmer I only got into last week because I was doing some research on Ukuleles. And she has so cool ukulele songs.

  2. I don't know if I've seen it, but I'll check it out. I mostly was listening to her Radiohead covers.
