Read Any Good Books Lately?

I finished two books this month.

If you're unfamiliar with Amanda Palmer, she's a singer/songwriter who's married to author Neil Gaiman.  The book was an offshoot of a TED talk she gave:

A number of years ago while browsing at the bookstore I was attracted to this cover:
It turned out to be a great read so I bought the book below and have been waiting for the right time to read it.  Like having unopened packs of cards I like having a bunch of books on my shelves for future opening.  As "...Dreaming Books" this was an entertaining read.

I'm terrible at writing reviews so if any of these books looks intriguing I recommend checking further at Amazon etc.

Lou Boudreau 1948 World Series Commemorative Patch

I like patch cards in general but this one is particularly nice since it commemorates Lou's greatest achievement in baseball.  In addition to managing the team to it's last World Series Championship, Lou also won the AL MVP as the team's shortstop.

Toe Troubles

Sorry for the lack of posts lately.  Other than general post holiday blues I've been suffering from some chronic pain and it's made it hard to enjoy doing much of anything.  Do you ever get this type of snow buildup in your wheel wells?
I do.  One time it froze so solid that it made my steering wheel chatter as I drove.  Ever since then I've tried to be vigilant about getting rid of the snow.  Usually a few kicks will do it.  Back around Thanksgiving, I think, it snowed and I kicked at the buildup a little too hard and screwed up my right big toe pretty badly.  I thought it would heal on it's own and the holiday season was here and yadda, yadda, yadda I finally had to go to the podiatrist this week.  After a minor procedure it still hurts but not nearly as bad.  I guess I learned a lesson the hard way and I'll use a hammer or something in the future.  My luck I'll probably drop it on my toe.  Speaking of toes, here are a couple in card form:

Mr. Cub is Gone

I was sorry to hear that Ernie Banks died today at age 83.

1954 Topps #94

Back in the 80's when my late Mom and Ernie were both working for New World Van Lines, Ernie was nice enough to autograph these promotional postcards for my Dad, my sister and me.

Rest in peace Mr Cub.

Go, Daddio!

I added a couple more of these cards to my vintage football collection.  Couldn't resist this one, daddy-o.

Pittsburgh end Bill Daddio's 71 yard interception return touchdown against Washington in the 1937 Rose Bowl
Daddio scoring on a 71 yard pick six in the 1937 Rose Bowl.  He was awarded the MVP.

I've Joined the Club -- Stadium-wise Mini Box 2

This is only the second hobby box I've purchased and the first since Obak so you know I must be excited by these cards.  SPOILER ALERT-- the autographed card in this box was much better than the first.  Well for me maybe.
