Hall of Famer Chick Hafey was born on this date in 1903.

Legendary Celtics center Bill Russell is 78 today.

Russell won 11 NBA Championships

Bill was MVP 5 times (1 more than Wilt)

In 1966, following Red Auerbach's retirement, Bill Russell became the NBA's first African-American coach.

 In 2009 the NBA honored Russell by re-naming the Finals MVP trophy, the "Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award".  Here's Bill presenting the trophy to Kobe Bryant.

Ballplayer, announcer and TV Personality, Joe Garagiola is 86 today.
Joe is in Baseball's Hall of Fame.  He received the Ford Frick award in 1991.
