2001 UD Hall of Famers White Sox to Indians

I really miss sets like this 2001 UD Hall of Famers.  I picked this one up for $8.00 shipped.  Lets look at them all.

I'll bet Dime Box Nick would pay 20 cents for this one, but he probably did get one for a dime.  And the lights are on but it looks more like an overcast Chicago day than an awesome night card.  Sorry Owl.
"He (Hoyt Wilhelm) had the best knuckleball you'd ever want to see. He knew where it was going when he threw it, but when he got two strikes on you, he'd break out one that even he didn't know where it was going." - Brooks Robinson

It's always a bonus to see Negro League legends in a set.
Buck was known as the Black Lou Gehrig and with teammate Josh Gibson often called the Thunder Twins.

The Heater from Van Meter.  He lost 4 prime years to the war.
Boudreau rode his horse hard in 1946.  48 starts?  371 innings?  Rapid Robert ended up winning 26 games for a team that finished 68-86.  Second highest win total on the team was Allie Reynolds with 11.

He's not just a name on an award kids.
A different era but numbers that will never be matched.

"Satchel Paige was the toughest pitcher I ever faced. I couldn't do much with him. All the years I played there, I never got a hit off of him. He threw fire." - Buck Leonard
"Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
Dance like nobody's watching."

A $25 Ebay Gift Card Got Me Part 6 -- Turkey Cards

Last year my sister-in-law and brother-in-law gave me a $25 Ebay gift card for Christmas.  Here's what I ended up with.  This year they were nice enough to treat me again.

This was my first purchase , second, , third fourth and fifth.

Here's my sixth purchase.  Cost $1.50shipped .  So far $22.61.

I can't tell you much about these.  They are listed in The Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards.  I'm guessing they were a send away item since they came sealed.  The copy-write date is 1994 but they were released in 1995.  Wikipedia shows Mr. Turkey as part of Sara Lee but that's about all I could find on the company.  Anyone have anything to add?

Do It Yourself COMC Pack #26/35 Topps Gallery

I recently had 8 months worth of Check Out My Cards purchases shipped.  I divided the 153 cards into 35 groups.  I like to think of these as hand picked "packs".   I'm posting them in random order.  "Pack" #12, 4 cards, was $1.12 including shipping.

These are the thick, shiny, "chromish" artist proof versions of the 2003 Topps Gallery cards.

Blow Out the Candles -- November 3

"Rapid Robert" Feller was born in Van Meter, Ohio on this date in 1918.
1953 Topps #54
Bob won 266 games despite serving four years in the Navy during WWII. I love this 1953 card, the only vintage Feller in my collection.

The greatest Jewish pitcher after Sandy Koufax, Kenny Holtzman turns 66 today.
1970 Topps #505
Ken is remembered for his time with the beloved Cubs of the 60's and the A's dynasty of the early 70's.

Another Aussie tennis great is celebrating a birthday this week. Roy Emerson turns 75.

Roy won 12 singles and 16 men's doubles Grand Slam titles, including 6 Australian Open's in 7 years from 1961 to 1967.

Scottish singer/entertainer Lulu is celebrating her 63rd birthday today.

Lulu sang the theme song to the 1967 Sidney Poitier film, To Sir with Love.
