Happy third night of Hanukkah!
A good number of Jewish ballplayers have spent time playing for the two Chicago teams. Being a North Side kid growing up in the 1960's and 70's number one on my list has to be Kenny Holtzman. Rumor even has it that he got married at a synagogue in my neighborhood. Ken has the most career wins of any Jewish pitcher and was part of the Swingin' A's 70's dynasty.
The Timeless Teams autos are fantastic, I love the ballpark photos on the back.
ReplyDeleteWhen Topps was running the Diamond Dig contest in 2011 they had a trade market where users could trade their prizes on the site. I was looking for a nice older card that wouldn't be in high demand, and one of the cards I traded for was the 1979 Topps Holtzman, with the Wrigley Field ivy right behind him.
Holtzman was before my time... but as a fan, I'll always appreciate what he did to help the Athletics during that run in the 70's.
ReplyDeleteHoltzman looks like one of the Bee Gees.
