Autographed Cards A-Z Hockey Edition N-P

When I got back into collecting five or so years ago one of the things that excited me was the availability of autographed cards.  Perhaps I went a little overboard but I think I picked up some nice cards.  This will be an A-Z series of posts with varying numbers of cards.

Eric was a long time Blackhawk on the teams I grew up with.  He was part of the 1960-61 Stanley Cup Championship team.

Darren's a likeable guy who played briefly for the Hawks and went on to become a broadcaster.  According to Wikipedia he and Steve Yzerman are BFFs.

Pappin, pictured here as a Leaf is another Blackhawk I grew up watching.  He was a regular from 1968-74.

A Hall of Famer, Parent's jersey, #1, was the first to be retired by the Flyers.

Another Hall of Famer and member of the 1960-61 Blackhawks Stanley Cup Championship team.  He won the Norris Trophy 3 consecutive years.  These Topps Archives cards are outstanding!

Oriole great Dave Mcnally was born on this date in 1942.

1971 Topps #320

Dave was part of the great starting rotation for the Baltimore in the 60's and early 70's. He was 4-2 with a 2.34 ERA in 4 World Series. Lifetime, in 14 seasons he was 184-119 with a 3.24 ERA.

Eric Nesterenko turns 78 today. He played 16 seasons for the Blackhawks and was a member of the  Stanley Cup Championship team in 1961.

Black eyed Nesterenko and the always excited Golden Jet.

Phil Goyette also turns 78 . He played 16 years in the NHL and was lucky enough to be on Stanley Cup winners with Montreal his first four.

1969-70 Topps #21

One of the more unflattering cards you'll see.  This being Halloween, add a few scars to his face and a couple of bolts to his neck and --- you get the picture.

Astronaut Michael Collins turns 81 today. Mr. Collins was the command module captain on the Apollo 11 mission which landed the first men on the moon. He's one of only 24 humans who have flown to the moon and back.

Comedian Brian-Doyle Murray is celebrating his 66th birthday today.

Brian is  the older brother of Bill Murray.

 Of his many roles I remember him best as the bubble boy's father on Seinfeld, and the Mayor of Punxsutawney in Groundhog Day.

Lastly, folk singer/songwriter, Tom Paxton turns 74 today.

1961 Stanley Cup Champions Honored

Last night the Blackhawks had a ceremony honoring the Blackhawks players from the 1960-61 Stanley Cup Championship team.  Eight (I think) of the old guys were introduced one-by-one including four Hall of Famers, Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Piere Pilote and Glenn Hall.  Rocky Wirtz and John McDonough have done a great job in bringing back the alumni over the last couple of years, after the previous Wirtz's antagonized them into exile.

The Blackhawks have been limping toward the Stanley Cup playoffs, 4-4-2 in their last 10 games. Overall they've had a great season at 48-22-7. Hopefully they'll get hot and accomplish what the gentlemen from 1960-61, below, did -- that is bring the the Stanley Cup to Chicago.
