Here Come the Hawks

My love of Upper Deck Hockey is well documented.  It's my favorite card set of the year.  I love the full bleed, the great color and the creative photography.  It doesn't hurt that over the last decade my favorite team has been one of the best in all of sports.  I'm not exactly sure why but I just haven't felt like buying a complete set of cards this year.  Instead I opted for just the Blackhawks.  My Series 1 & 2 cards arrived yesterday.  I won't bore you with commentary.  If you're a hockey fan you know most of these guys.  If you're not you'll enjoy the cards anyway.

I'm still basking in the Blackhawks glow.  The Chicago Symphony Orchestra paid tribute the other night.  The original version by The Fratellis follows.

"We will play for you now, "The Chelsea Dagger".

Is the original better?  They certainly are different.

Captain Serious

It's a pretty great time a year for sports fans.  March Madness just ended and it's Opening Day today for baseball.  We're approaching the NBA Playoffs and maybe my favorite, the long quest for the Stanley Cup.  My Chicago Blackhawks have won twice as many games as they've lost and are only five points behind the Ducks and Rangers for the best record in the NHL.  And yet it hasn't seemed like a great year.  The team has sputtered offensively and just hasn't seemed as sharp as they'd like to be.  The league has so much parity that I'd be afraid to make any bets on who will end up winning it all.

Patrick Kane is currently tied for the top spot in total points in the NHL with 63.  I picked up this 13 card mini collection from COMC on Black Friday weekend.  Like the Hossa's I think I found a nice variety of inexpensive cards.
