My Cup Runneth Over --Rookie-Wise

I picked up a complete base set of 2005 Topps Rookie Cup cards for about $10. Yes, the backgrounds are repetitive and boring but the color photos pop and the selection of players is great. The backs are interesting with their rookie emphasis.   I chose six cards today with an obvious theme.

 

 

 

Big Cards Need Love Too -- #'s 55-60

I guess I'm in the minority but I think these 3-1/2" x 5", 1983 Donruss Action All-Stars are nice.   Here they are in numerical order. (Click to enlarge particularly if you want to read the backs).

If the comments I've been getting on the first half of the set are any indication these cards do have some fans.  Anyone want to comment that doesn't like them?

Well, it looks like we're going to finish strong with three out of the last four cards being Hall of Famers.

Autographed Baseball Cards A-Z

When I got back into collecting five or so years ago one of the things that excited me was the availability of autographed cards.  Perhaps I went a little overboard but I think I picked up some nice cards.  This will be an A-Z series of posts with varying numbers of cards.

 2005 UD Ultimate Signature MVPs #MVP-FC

Talking Rod Carew here.  7 time batting champ, 18 time all-star, 3000 hit club, ROY, MVP, HOF.  All this on a hard signed card.  Need I say more?

1999 Fleer/SI

I love the SI Cover cards.  The headline says it all.  Best Wishes for a full recovery, Gary.  BTW, one of the best smiles in the business, too.

2001 Fleer Greats of the Game

Not the best color man in the world (he worked Cubs games for two years) but he hit one of the most famous home runs in World Series history.  Nice signature.

2004 Playoff Absolute Memorabilia #218 326/500

I think this card was part of a lot.  Still, I liked Ronny when he was with the Cubs and am glad he found a home in Pittsburgh.  Not wild about the sticker or the signature.  Is he going by "Ronny C"?  There's plenty more room for "edeno" kid!

2005 UD Signature Decades #SD-OC

My fav set.  Another HOFer who was a ROY and an  MVP.  I still remember Ernie Banks saying his name "Cepeder".

2002 Fleer Genuine Ink  699/975

Not a Hall of Famer but he was a 6 time All-Star, WS MVP, and  a member of the 1984 Cubs. Can't beat the moniker, "The Penguin".  Nice touch the way he works his number 10 into his signature.  Much appreciated.

Groovy Bat Cards -- Hall of Fame edition

Fernandomania was in full swing in 1982. The back of the card references the 1981 All-Star Game so this photo may have been taken prior to the game. Not the most flattering shot of Fernando. Gary Carter looks good, check out those curly brown locks---but....he's out of focus. And can anyone tell me what's going on with the guy in the middle? He's sure in focus!
