Autographed Baseball Cards A-Z

When I got back into collecting five or so years ago one of the things that excited me was the availability of autographed cards.  Perhaps I went a little overboard but I think I picked up some nice cards.  This will be an A-Z series of posts with varying numbers of cards.

I thought I was done with the F's but I found two more.

This makes my third Bill Freehan.  It's different than the other two, being an action shot and it's on card.  I have all three of the Topps ATFF base sets.  They're great.

It's "Super Sam" Fuld.  Sam has an interesting background and like Cubs great Ron Santo he battles diabetes while playing baseball.  Love his hustle.  I was sorry to see him leave the Cubbies.   Unfortuately there are only so many spots.
2008 Bowman #224 324/500

One of the cogs of the "Big Red Machine", he won four consecutive Gold Gloves ('74-'77).  He was coincidentally the 3000th strikeout victim of the guy on the next card.
2004 Topps #TA-CG

I liked the second card here.  It has a nice relic (pants by the way), but I wanted an on card auto.  Love these Fleers and Bob has a clear distinctive signature.

2005 UD Hall of Fame Baseball Hallworthy #HW-BG1 15/15

Arizona Daimondbacks manager Kirk Gibson may not be a Hall of Famer but he had some great moments.  You know his home run off Eckersley.  He also won a Championship with the Tigers.  His signature is not very legible but it has an arty kind of vibe to it.

Does anyone not like Rollie Fingers--- if not for his pitching, then for his name, if not for his name for his mustache?  Here he is on two of my favorite sets.

I knew I wanted a Fisk auto.  This one is on card and very bold.  Glad he's in a Red Sox uniform.

2003 UD Yankee Signature Series #PN-WF

I love this 67 reprint.
2001 Team Topps Fan Favorites Reprint #3

I have a collection of 1968 Tigers and you have to have the catcher.  Freehan is probably under appreciated overall though he was an 11 time All-Star and one of the all time great defensive catchers.  Past Time Pennants has one of the best autograph checklists of any set.

It's really hard to pick a favorite from this group.

Blow Out the Candles Nov 29

7 time All-Star Orestes "Minnie" Minoso turns 84 today. Minnie started his career in 1949 with the Indians and finished with the White Sox in 1980 meaning he played in a remarkable 5 decades.

1968 Topps #375

Detroit Tigers great Bill Freehan turns 68 today. Bill was an 11 time All-Star, won 5 Gold Gloves and was a member of the 1968 World Series Champions.

Also celebrating a birthday today, is 3 time All-Star Dick McAuliffe. McAuliffe was also a member of the 1968 Tigers and though he hit only .222 in the Series he did drive in three and scored five times.

Here's Dick facing Bob Gibson. He was the first batter of the series and struck out. He did single in the 6th in a 4-0 loss.
