New Season Not New Cards

Well, the NHL season has begun.  My team is off to a slow start at 1-2 but they did pick up their first win on Saturday night against the Preds riding Richard Panik's hat trick.  Upper Deck Series 1 is due out in less than a month but I realized that I never posted any of last year's Series 2 cards.  So in no particular order, here are a bunch of my favorites.

Nothing But Netminders

The hockey goaltender must be the most conspicuous position in any of the four major sports.  Only the baseball catcher even comes close and that's only for half the game.  The goalie has his oar of a stick held by the blocker glove, the outsized catcher glove on the opposite hand, the huge pads and everyone's favorite, the personalized mask.  Add that all of the scoring and often the lack of, happens in his immediate vicinity and it's no wonder that he holds our fascination.  Here are all of the men in net from this year's Upper Deck Series One set.  They are in numerical order.

Hockey Cards for Christmas -- 2015-16 UD Original Six Favorites

If your significant other/family doesn't have an ebay account I highly recommend you help them get one.  I set one up for my wife before Christmas and netted a base set (1-200) of this season's Upper Deck Series One hockey cards.  Thanks, Sweetie!

I'm a big fan.  The cards have a nice gloss, great color, and a better than average selection of photographs.  The backs are unexceptional but for this set I really don't care.  Here are my favorites from the Original Six teams starting with my hometown team, the reigning Stanley Cup Champions.  Note that they are mostly shots taken during the Finals.  Like the Original Six playoff system, only one third of the available cards didn't make the cut.
