Blow Out the Candles July 1

Rangers all-time great and Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert is celebrating his 71st birthday today.
1971-72 Topps #123

1972-73 Topps #80

January 30, 1967

Rod's #7 jersey was the first to be retired  by the Rangers organization.  He is still their career leader in both goals (406) and points (1021).

Actor Jamie Farr is celebrating his 78th birthday today.

If you're a Dick Van Dyke Show fan you might remember Jamie as a delivery man who brought food to the gang at the Alan Brady Show.  Of course he's best known for his role as Corporal Max Klinger on M*A*S*H.
Here's Jamie shaking hands with Ronald Raegan.  Look who's standing to Farr's left, none other than Say Hey, Willie Mays.

Singer and actress Debbie Harry is 67 today.

Debbie is best known as the lead singer of the group Blondie.

One reason I can't give up my vinyl record collection is because of covers like this:
The cover, 1981's KooKoo, is a collaboration between photographer Brian Aris, and illustrator H.R. Giger.

Comedian, writer, actor Dan Aykroyd is celebrating his 60th birthday today.

Parkhurst Retro Favorites New York Rangers

It's hard to believe but for the quarter century prior to 1967 the NHL consisted of only six teams, the Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Rangers, Bruins, Red Wings and Blackhawks.

In the mid-nineties, Parkhurst commemorated the 1964-65 NHL season by producing a set of "Tall Boy" cards featuring players and coaches from the "Original Six" teams. I'll be sharing my favorites in coming posts.

Here are my favorites from the New York Rangers:
