The Cubs two biggest run producers are off to a slow start this season. Ramirez is hitting .155, Lee .221 (as of 5/3).
Said manager Lou Piniella: "Both those guys, you look at their bubble gum cards, they're going to hit. The sooner they hit … it makes it (easier) for the rest of the lineup. But the rest of the lineup is doing a nice job."
Let's look at their bubble gum cards and what Lou is getting at:
Aramis Ramirez's lifetime average is .286
Derrek Lee's is .284.
Assuming neither one is injured or suddenly "over the hill", things should get better.
The good news is everyone else is hitting the ball. They should put together a couple of monster streaks soon.
