Here's a couple of oddballs I found in one of my boxes of cards. They are inserts from 1971-72 Topps basketball. The fun thing about these, for me, is the team names/location changes that I've either forgotten or never known. (Reminder: click to enlarge)
Cool! Those old logos are great! :)
ReplyDeleteThese are part of the first traditionally sized insert set in NBA history. The majority of the cards were three panel stickers of players, but there were also the team logos as well. As far as I can tell, this is the ONLY time the majority of the ABA logos ever appeared on a card, as well as the Buffalo Braves logo in the NBA. The one major ABA exception is the Indiana Pacers, who used the same logo up until 1989-90 I believe.
ReplyDeleteThey are quite rare, I've only been able to hunt down one three-player panel in nearly 20 years of searching. I suspect many were peeled and stuck on things in the early 1970s. (I have the complete base set, with variations)
