Blow out the Candles

1911 T201 Mecca Double Folders

Today is the birthday of Cleveland great second baseman Napolean Lajoie born on this date in 1874.

Nap had a lifetime batting average of .339 and 3252 hits. He was inducted into the HOF's second class in 1937.

From Line-up for Yesterday by Ogden Nash:

L
is for Lajoie
Whom Clevelanders love,
Napolean himself,
With glue in his glove.

I inherited the card above from my Dad along with a small group of other cigarette cards all of which I treasure. (The white mark by Nap's right leg must have been of the scanner.)
