I wasn't sure how I felt about Topps Project 2020 when it began. I may have even been a bit confused by it. I certainly didn't understand the frenzy. There was a frenzy, right? So now it's 2021 and I noticed some really low starting prices on the one player I'm most interested in, Sandy Koufax. Impulsively I bid on the one I found most interesting, the Tyson Beck.
So now I have a Project 2020 card. I don't have any buyers remorse, nor am I that excited. Pardon me if I sound like the guy late to the movie who's asking what's going on but how do you feel about the set at this point. Did you buy any? Planning to?
Is it a concentration camp reference? He was Jewish, but he was born in Brooklyn. So it seems like a stretch.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it has nothing to do with that at all. Inquiring minds want to know.
DeleteTo answer your questions...no and no.
ReplyDeleteThanks and thanks.
DeleteI did enjoy several of the Chang and Ermsy pieces... but just wasn't a fan of the price. Paid full price for the four I really wanted. That being said... I've been able to grab more than a handful of other cards for under $5 shipped. At that price, I'm okay with them.
ReplyDeleteI guess I haven't looked at that many but the ones I have don't grab me aesthetically.
DeleteI did the full run of Jeters, which look cool all together. I was more relieved to finish it, rather than excited.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have another set like Chicle or Masterpieces. I do like the idea of art cards.
DeleteI mentioned this on another blog, but I instantly associated the barbed wire and the Jewish athlete behind it with a concentration camp. I don't know if the artist did this with such intent, but it's in poor taste regardless.
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing. What did the artist intend? He doesn't have to say but I'm still curious.
DeleteCool looking card. I think I ended up with about half a dozen of these, but not any that I paid full price for. I just grabbed a couple cheaper ones on COMC or eBay at times. They are very hit or miss for me, but so is art and I suppose that's the point. I wanted the Mark McGwire one that's literally just a huge cheeseburger just along the lines of "so bad I have to have it", but haven't run across a cheap one yet...
ReplyDeleteThey have too much of a graffiti look for my taste. I also say I like variety so good for Topps. Obviously many collectors liked them.
