Card of the Day

This recent pick up is my first and so far only card from the  50 card  N88 set, The Terrors of America and Their Doings issued by Duke's Cigarettes in 1889.  I can't get enough cards like this.

To put the age of this card in perspective:

Here's the final standing for the National League in 1889:
National League
ClubWinsLossesWin %  GB
New York Giants8343.659
Boston Beaneaters8345.6481
Chicago White Stockings6765.50819

Cleveland Spiders6172.45925.5
Indianapolis Hoosiers5975.44028
Washington Nationals4183.33141

Vincent Van Gogh painted The Starry Night:

The Eiffel Tower was completed becoming the tallest man made structure in the world:

Nellie Bly's unprecedented trip around the globe began.  Great book by the way.

  1. Super crazy, love the card, post and perspective. I always wonder what has happening when I have a good retro card.

On a side note, the urban dictionary didn't exist either...

  2. Great post. Just another way to look at pieces of cardboard.
