Before the Bridge

As I've said, my main postal focus is Chicago but as with trading cards I love variety as well.  This is a card that just came in the mail a few days ago.  Probably dating from around 1907 it is titled Golden Gate from Lands End S. F. Cal.  Yes, that Golden Gate.  Take a look into the distance.  This photograph would have been taken decades before the beginning of construction of the iconic bridge that bears it's name.

This is from approximately the same place..
Back of the postcard.
A short video about the Golden Gate Bridge.

  1. Sweet collectible. I would take that kind of thing all day long.

    1. Here'a a thought I've had. Allen and Ginter fans really like the non-sport insert sets. What if, for the same price as a pack of A&G you could get a pack of five postcards guaranteed to be between 70 and 110 years old? That's basically what I do except I can hand pick them. Similarly,on the opposite end of the size spectrum, if you like the A&G minis you can find old tobacco cards.

  2. Awesome post card. I love everything and anything related to the Golden Gate Bridge... even a post card featuring a photo before it was built.

    1. I don't have a lot of West Coast cards. I love the fact that this is pre-bridge. It spurs the imagination.
