Now Playing Center Field, Tippi Hedren

My wife is a big Alfred Hitchcock fan.  I did like Rear Window and North by Northwest.  I didn't care for The Birds myself.  I'd much rather see a good comedy any day.

Tippi Hedren played Melanie Daniels in this movie.  Coincidentally, her daughter is Melanie Griffith.  The Working Girl star was six years old when the film was released.

I came across this great card in a drawer the other day.  Reed Johnson was already a fan favorite in Toronto when he joined the Cubs in 2008.  During two stints he would become a Chicago favorite as well.
As I recall the gulls would come around late in the afternoon presumably looking for scraps from the fans.
Reed spoke with Ryan Dempster recently on Demp's podcast, Off the Mound.

  1. That's a unique card! I wish Topps would make more of those as regular singles and not SSP variations.

    1. Yeah, it frustrates me that they mostly put creative/unusual shots into Stadium Club. I wonder how many great shots are rejected in Flagship. Are they purposely using "traditional" photos? And I could care less about the design elements. Give me good pictures.

  2. That was a cool set that Breygent put out. As for seagulls... I'm not a fan. They hang out at my school and they're constantly dropping presents from the sky. Haven't been a big fan of distance learning... but it's been nice to not have to worry about them birds.

    1. It's funny that we have them here in the Midwest. Of course we have them on the Chicago lakefront. I'm sure I have some pictures somewhere. I nicknamed them "parking lot gulls" because that's also where I seem to see them, even in Iowa.

    2. Our biggest nuisance in terms of bird droppings is the nasty Canada goose. Again, home in Chicago and in Iowa. They sound great flying over but I wish they'd never land.

    3. Not sure if they're Canadian Geese or not, but we have a bunch that hang out on the golf course. Those guys are not afraid of anything and have hissed at me on numerous occasions.

  3. To this day, when I see large swarms of birds in the sky, my heart rate goes up...

    1. Thanks. I've had of of my display cases full of the movie poster cards up for too long, though. Need to change it.
