Eight Crazy Nights - Five

Happy 5th night of Hanukkah!
Steve "Stone Pony" Stone may have started his career with the Giants and won his Cy Young Award with the Orioles but he has become a fixture in Chicago.  Steve has been a broadcaster for the Cubs and the Sox for over three decades beginning in the early 80's.

    1. Stone's autograph seems to match his personality. If only all players took as much time signing as he obviously does.

  2. Wait, the White Sox traded Stone AND 3 other players for Santo, (who was at the end of his career) for the purpose of taking playing time AWAY from Allen and Melton?

It's no wonder the Sox were finishing near the bottom in those years, with that braintrust in charge.

  3. Santo was betrayed by Sox management who forced the future Hall of Famer (much too delayed) into DH-ing and playing 2nd base for the first time in his career. So unhappy was Ronnie, that he left a good chunk of change on the table rather than coming back for the 1975 season.

  4. As soon as I saw his name, his 1981 Donruss card popped into my head. As a kid, I though I pulled something really special back in the day, because it didn't look like the other cards in the set.
