Hall of Famer Sam Thompson was born in Danville, IN in 1860.
A few facts about "Big Sam".
His 126 home runs was second all-time at the time of his retirement.
In 1887 his drove in a record 166 runs, not equalled until Babe Ruth drove in 171 in 1921.
In 1894 he was part of the only all .400 outfield.  He, Tuck Turner, Ed Delahanty, and Billy Hamilton all hit over .400.
Sam was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1974.

Boston Bruins great Milt Schmidt is celebrating his 94th birthday today.



Milt won two Stanley Cups as a player and another two as GM.  He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1961.
Milt was the center man on the famed "Kraut Line".


Milt's accomplishments:
Stanley Cup champion - all with Boston (1939 and 1941 as a player), (1970 and 1972 as general manager)
Finished his career with 229 goals and 346 assists for 575 points in 776 games.
At the time of his retirement, was third in NHL history in points scored and second in assists.
Named to the NHL First All-Star Team in 19401947 and 1951.
Named to the NHL Second All-Star Team in 1952.
Played in NHL All-Star Game in 194719481951 and 1952.
Won the Lester Patrick Trophy for contributions to hockey in 1996.
Was the last active NHL player who played during the 1930s.
In 1998, he was ranked number 27 on The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players.
Won the Hart Trophy in 1951
NHL Scoring Champion in 1940

Singer Andy Gibb was born in Manchester, England on this date in 1958.
Gibb made some great pop music in the 1970's.
Andy died suddenly of myocarditis at age 30.

The ever smiling  evangelist Joel Osteen is celebrating his 49th birthday today.
