2010 Obak Box Break -- Pack 10

Pack #10 -- halfway there:

I'm declaring my first tie for favorite card in the pack.

Having read the book, The Greatest Game Ever Played I was hoping to get the Francis Ouimet card.  Even if you're not a golf fan you should check out the book.

One of the 1919 "Black Sox" Buck Weaver was implicated in the fix and was suspended for life although he hit .324 in the Series and made no errors.

This card is a copy of the Obak 1911 both front and back.

I'm a sucker for old ballparks so my favorite card in this pack has to be Col. Stevens and Elysian Field.

2010 Obak Box Break -- Pack 8

Pack 8:

OK, what wiseguy picked "Clean-Wholesome" for the back of Jose Canseco's card?

It was hard to go against "Crash" Davis and I like the catcher's gear on Jay Clarke but look at the numbers old Joe Riggert put up in the minors.  I confess the background got me on this one as well.

2010 Obak Box Break -- Pack 7

Time for a look at Pack #7:

This was a bit of a toss up for favorite card.  Hard to pass on Mister "Casey at the Bat" (with a bonus Missus --or is it?)  Then there's Jim Creighton (read the back).  Throw in a Starlin mini.  In the end I picked poor old Wally Pipp.  Did Tristar pick the setting sun background as a symbol?  The sun set on Wally's starting role with the NY Yankees on June 2, 1925,  when Lou Gehrig stepped onto the infield.

2010 Obak Box Break -- Pack 6

Pack 6 is here:

Four Baltimore guys in one pack.

I get a 5/5 red back, and it's Jack Dunn.  My luck!

The Heyward mini is nice but the regular size card was already my favorite in pack 4 so props have to go to Hall of Fame Negro League pioneer Rube Foster standing in a beautiful fall scene.

2010 Obak Box Break -- Pack 5

A look at pack 5:

Sorry, Italian beer drinkers who love mini's.  I have to say that my favorite card in this pack is:

2010 Obak Box Break -- Pack 4

 On to pack #4:

My favorite card from this pack has to be the Heyward, not so much because of Jason but for the awesome background.  I do love that there is a reflection in his glasses that brings them together.

2010 Obak Box Break -- Pack 3

Here's pack #3 from my box of 2010 Tristar Obak:

H

I have to go with Harry Stevens as my favorite from this pack.  He coined the phrase, "You can't tell the players without a scorecard!"  Hard to beat that.

The mini was numbered to 25.  Santana had a pretty good start but is now out for the season.

Obak Box Break -- Pack 2

Here's Pack 2:

Roy Hofheinz was "the leading force behind the group that won an expansion baseball team in Houston, the Colt .45s.  It was his innovation that conceived the Astrodome..."

Austin Jackson, while slumping lately, is still hitting .302 while playing outfield for the Detroit Tigers.

Benjamin Shibe was part owner of the Philadelphia Athletics from 1901-1922 and old Shibe Park was named after him.  "He is credited with inventing the machinery to make standard baseballs and the idea of the cork centered ball."

Craig Kimbrel appeared in 8 games for the Braves earlier this season and has 20 saves for AAA Gwinnett with as 1.50 ERA.

My favorite card from this pack is:

Did you notice that the first scan only had five cards?  The sixth was autographed :

I admit I was not familiar with Drew Storen.  His numbers look pretty good for the Nats.  In 36 appearances he's 3-2 with a 2.61 ERA and 2 saves.
