On This Day in Sports History -- The Great One

On this date in 1994 Wayne Gretzky became the NHL's All-Time Goal Scoring Leader with 802.

Of course, The Great One passed Mr. Hockey that night in 1994.  "Records are made to be broken."

  1. That's a great Gordie Howe card! I can't wait to see Alex Ovechkin reach 800 goals. Not sure if he'll catch Gretzky though.

  2. Thanks. One of the few fun things about getting old is being able to say you got a 1968-69 Gordie Howe for a penny. Pack pulled but unfortunately not pack fresh. It was the first year I collected hockey cards.

  3. A. Gretzky's goal is one of the main reasons I dove head first into collecting hockey in the mid 90's. That and playing NHL on the Sega Genesis.

    B. That Howe is my favorite hockey card of all-time. Such a beautiful card.

    1. I'm prejudiced by nostalgia but I really like that set.
