1953 Topps World on Wheels

I'll probably buy some Opening Day when they arrive next month.  Until then I've been working on a vintage non-sports sampler.  I picked up these two 1953/54 Topps World on Wheels cards for under $2.00 shipped.
Believe it or not I found this image of the exact car on a postcard.

  1. I don't know which I like more the "World On Wheels" cards or the postcard.

One of the running jokes on the old Jack Benny radio program was his dilapidated Maxwell, which was "voiced" by Mel Blanc. Here's a video of Mel demonstrating the Maxwell sounds for a young David Letterman:

  2. Thanks for sharing. I really like the 1953 Topps World on Wheels design. Very interesting vehicles on the checklist, but I wish they would have produced a Karmann Ghia card.

  3. Love this set! The Long Island Automotive Museum supplied more than 1/3rd of the images to Topps in the set, and it even has a card in the set- in a very similar image to the post card (minus the people and Buick). This makes up part of Topps' Transportation Trifecta of the 1950s with 1952's Wings (Friend or Foe) and 1955's Rails & Sails. All three rank high in my list of favorite vintage sets.
