Do You Have a Pack Stash?

This looked less pathological when everything was spread out between three or four boxes and multiple shelves.  Do you have a collection of unopened boxes and packs?

I forgot to pull these--I've had them for 41 years.

  1. Pictures like that make me drool. When I was a kid, I carefully saved a pack or three every year, unopened, but I haven't kept up with that habit. It was extremely hard for a kid to do; I just wanted to open those packs sooo bad. But I knew they were going to make me RICHIE RICH some day, because even in the late 70s you could see what things would be like if you were sitting on a stash of unopened packs from the 50s.

I am really looking forward to the day I can blow some cash on a unopened wax pack of 1975 Topps baseball. For some reason I have no desire to open the more commonly available cello packs, or a mini pack, because I never saw any of those when I was a kid. And there are only a handful of sellers I would trust I am actually opening a never-opened wax pack. It will be a full video break when it happens that's for sure, and possibly a near-religous experience.

Soooooo.....if you have some 1971 or whatever football, is there a 1975 baseball hidden in there? I have a 78, 79, 80, and 81 to trade....possibly in multiples, possibly in other years, I forget. If I don't look at my stash, I'm not tempted to burn it up.

    1. The 72 football are the only really old ones I have. I wish I had saved some 75 baseball. I did buy packs when they came out and still have the cards, including a Brett rookie but sadly no Yount.

  2. I don't get it, what is an "unopened pack"? I'm pretty sure once a pack hits my hands it's open within 2 seconds somehow.

  3. Hmmm.... 1989 Fleer, a pack of 2007 with a jagged piece of brown cardboard behind it... I'm guessing that more than a couple of these came out of repacks. :-D

I used to have a bunch of packs, but I've been going through them and either opening them or giving them away. I've also got a bunch of Japanese packs that I bought at the National last year. I had decided to pace myself, but I'm pacing a little too much because I never get around to opening them. My brain is deluded that there will be an absolutely perfect moment to open some 2004 BBM.

    1. Yep. Some are from repacks, some gifts, some eBay, some open one, save one (or two or more). Most of the unopened boxes are from when they came out.

  4. Awesome, I keep a shelf of unopened wax for when I get bored and want to crack a pack, but it's nothing like that! Maybe 4 or 5 wax boxes and 20 or so different loose packs. Great stuff!

  5. The only unopened packs I can leave unopened, are the 2003 Donruss Estrellas that I give away in trades once in a while, and they are dwindling in number.

  6. There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with a guy that won't rip a pack. Have you been to a doctor?

Just a suggestion: don't invite me over to your house if you have those around. Ever.

  7. Too paranoid to go to the doctor. ;) BTW I will rip "a" pack. Just not all packs.

  8. I've got some 2008 Topps stuff (of course) but that's it. Sometime soon I plan to open them with my son.

  9. I HAVE to rip open any packs I get. Even the '88 Donruss ones I get out of repacks. But that stash of yours is incredibly cool.

  10. Whoa. That is awesome. I have nothing of the sorts. I have about 5 or 6 wax packs from the '80s set aside for my son. Just junk wax, but will be fun to open one day.

  11. I always have a few unopened packs lying around, but nothing like that. I second JediJeff...don't invite me over....ever, no matter how cool I seem.

  12. Dude. DUDE!?!?! You just have 1972 football packs just laying around the house? I couldn't sleep at night. They would just call to me constantly...

As unopened stashes go, I might speak for the rest of the bloggosphere and say that is by far the most impressive one I have seen for personal use. I mean, I have to control myself not to open packs in the car on my way home from the store.

  13. Whoa. You own CardsOne or what? This is truly insane. 83T baseball. 84T football. 81F Star Stickers. 84T Super. 95UD Street Fighter.

And those vintage Topps football. That image should be your blog's background... it's like something that should be framed and sold on Topps.com.

    1. Just recently sold the 84 football and one of the 83 baseball. There was an article on the 84 football in Beckett last summer. I figured now was the time to sell before people lose interest in Marino and Elway. I didn't get top dollar but I was satisfied. The two boxes cost less than $20 new. I think some of those '72 packs are the next to go. I can't deny that I'm a bit of a hoarder.

    1. I really expected that more bloggers would have something closer to mine. I guess I'm even weirder than I thought.

  15. Id love to have one of those 72 football packs, I actually only collect unopened and that would extend my Topps football pack run. Let me know if interested.
