Sweetness

1976 Topps #148

It's hard to believe but today marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Bears icon Walter Payton. I remember soon after his passing watching the moving tribute on TV held at Soldier Field. There have been many great running backs before Walter and after but there won't ever be another like him. We miss you, Sweetness.

  1. This brings a tear to my eye.

I remember watching the Chicago Bears as a kid. They won Super Bowl XX on the day before my 11th birthday, which was the best present ever.

I was sad when Payton died 10 years ago--who wasn't? Back then, my roommate said "Who cares?" I asked him how he'd feel if one of his favorite actors died. He understood.

The Payton RC brings a tear to my eye too, though for selfish reasons. I could have purchased one "back in the day" for $60. I refused--that was $10 over book value. To this day, I wish I had bought it.
