1990-91 NBA Hoops -- Michael J. Taylor

This is the second in a series of posts highlighting paintings from the 1990-91 NBA Hoops set. The first is here:
One of the great things about having a lot of cards (particularly disorganized cards) is that you often come across things you didn't know you had or that you see in a different light.
Recently I rediscovered the checklist cards from the 1990-91 NBA Hoops set. The front of each team's checklist card has an original painting of a star player. Nine artists each contributed three paintings.

Here are the three done by Michael J. Taylor:

#356 Larry Bird

#371 Chris Morris

#377 Wayman Tisdale

There is currently a Michael J. Taylor who produces art for commemorative plates and the like. He also does sports figures. Strangely, I cannot find any biographical information about him.

I found one of the singer Neil Diamond:
and these of Jerry Mathers aka The Beaver:
I also found a few more sports pieces such as this poster of Kareem Abdul Jabbar:
Here's one more, goalie Chris Osgood:

    1. I’m sorry for all your troubles. I know it must be hard to be burnt out at the age of 40 and not able to have anything behind you do you to the fact that most of the NBA and whatever basketball versus baseball is called and football I just know that as a college professor we were always taught that they were given the easy professors and I learned this my first year of college when I was accidentally behind a bunch of jocks waiting to see the chair person. He just asked us to all come in so I went in with all these jokes and he said y’all want to know which teacher to take Wright and they said yeah yeah yeah and it was English and he said take this person so we all signed up for it I don’t recall ever seeing them in my class but the guy was OK he wasn’t just easy He just asked us to all come in so I went in with all these jocks and he said y’all want to know which teacher to take right and they said yeah yeah yeah and it was English and he said take this person so we all signed up for it I don’t recall ever seeing them in my class but the guy was OK he wasn’t just easy. I think if they had somebody to write their papers for them then they were pretty good because that was a lot of that type of English. I think it was contemporary literature or something like that. Anyway I was not a cheerleader or a jock I was a Wanabee veterinarian and I never aspired to my dream either but I did become a college professor myself. I faught my demons and got a double major in biology and chemistry which believe me was not easy. Whenever I would fail a class like chemistry I would make a point to major in it LOL. Of course I was always good in biology but to be a veterinarian you have to have a high GPA and do you well in all of your sciences which chemistry always kicked my ass until I got into my masters and PhD level. But I had my problems too and had to stop working at a young age luckily I’m still holding onto my house I don’t know for how much longer but I do understand how you can go cuckoo for cocoa puffs I went through 17 years of college worked myself to death trying to pay for college and after I graduated I finally got the job of my dreams and lasted about five years before I had a horrible accident that left me unable to work again But I had my problems too and had to stop working at a young age luckily I’m still holding onto my house I don’t know for how much longer but I do understand how you can go cuckoo for cocoa puffs I went through 17 years of college worked myself to death trying to pay for college and after I graduated I finally got the job of my dreams and lasted about five years before I had a horrible accident that left me unable to work again. Now I’m alone and depressed because my mother has just passed away and this Covid crap is not helping.

  7. My wife and I went to the Notre Dame vs. Nebraska game in September of 2000. As a stadium freebie, they handed out a poster. It was made from an original painting of Michael J. Taylor. As we left the stadium that day, there were a few cases of these posters that were not handed out, so one of the attendants let me take a case of 24. I've sold them to Nebraska and Notre Dame fans and they are treasured. As a collector, artist, musician, and author, Michael J. Taylor, hope you are doing okay. Contact me if you want to talk - rmihrig69@gmail.com.

I would post an image of that poster, but I don't know how to add it. I can't copy it. Thanks Bob
