How Do You Know You Don't Have It If You've Never Seen It
Regular readers will know that I fully admit to being only a semi-organized collector. That goes for my collection as a whole and also for my main player collection, Cubs legend and Hall of Famer Ron Santo. I'm lucky if from time to time I have his cards all in the same box (which I don't now). I do not have any kind of database or checklist. I do have a good idea of what I have but as the title of this post indicates I don't really know all the cards I'm missing.
If you have a player collection you're probably like me in that you check eBay on a regular basis looking for either new cards or cards you don't have. I look at least every few days. A couple of weeks ago I saw the card below with this title, RON SANTO 2005 DONRUSS SIGNATURE #6/25 GOLD CENTURY SP" I would have skipped right over it if I hadn't noticed the end part. I know I've never seen this one before. Now if the starting bid had been say ten bucks I might have put it in a watch list but that would have been it. Instead, the seller started it off at $1.00. I can sure play in that ballpark! I've already forgotten if I just put in the minimum or maybe a few bucks. No matter. Believe it or not this one slipped by everyone but me and I came away with it as the only bidder.
This is a card I've had for a long time, in fact I have a couple.
I
I do like autographed cards but in this case between the small design change at the top and without the intrusive sticker (which covers up Santo's #10) I think it's a much nicer looking card. Add that it's serial numbered to just 25 and I think I'd take it over the auto version. So the moral of this story is, keep a sharp eye out when you're hunting for cards. You never know what might come up.

Istanbul!
I came across both of these Turk Wendell cards the other day. If only all players would take the time to sign cards the way Turk did. Terrific!

Turk Wendell: 10 Reasons To Love the Eccentric Pitcher

Turk Wendell spent many seasons as an excellent set-up man. If I really felt like people would care, I could post his stats. However, outside of normal baseball articles, I would like to focus on other aspects of Turk Wendell, which make him a valuable member to my all-time awesome athlete team.
Reason No. 1—Wendell insisted that the umpire roll the ball to the mound rather than simply throw it to him. (If an umpire would ignorantly throw the ball to him, Wendell was known to let it go past him, or even to let it bounce off his chest, after which he would retrieve it from the ground.)
Reason No. 2—Whenever he began a new inning, Wendell would turn and wave to the center fielder and wait for him to wave back before proceeding.
Reason No. 3—At the beginning of each inning, Wendell would reportedly draw three crosses in the dirt of the pitcher's mound.
Reason No. 4—Once Turk Wendell got in a "who has more testicles" contest with Lance Armstrong. He won by seven.
Reason No. 5—Whenever his catcher stood, Wendell would crouch down.
Reason No. 6—When entering or leaving the field, Wendell would always take a colossal leap over the baseline.
Reason No. 7—Wendell often brushed his teeth between innings (some claim that he brushed between every inning). While brushing, he often hid in the dugout, either by ducking behind objects or by facing the wall. (picture above)
Reason No. 8—Wendell wore jersey number 99, in honor of Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn, the main character in the movie Major League (played by Charlie Sheen). In addition, in 2000, he signed a contract worth $9,999,999.99.
Reason No. 9—Wendell wore a necklace made from the claws and teeth of various animals he had hunted and killed.
Reason No. 10—Wendell sometimes threw his glove into the stands when leaving a game.

Do You Have a Pack Stash?
This looked less pathological when everything was spread out between three or four boxes and multiple shelves. Do you have a collection of unopened boxes and packs?
I forgot to pull these--I've had them for 41 years.

Bargain Hunting in eBay #7 --A Couple of Castros
Starlin had a very disappointing season in 2013, hitting just .245 with a career high in strikeouts. He also dropped from 25 stolen bases to just 9 (this may be attributed to team philosophy). If the Cubs are going to improve in 2014 (man I hope so) Starlin needs to find his stroke. These two cards were $.22 and $.11 shipped.

Tobacco Card Tuesday -- Ewe Might Like It
I'm not really a fan of contrived animal pictures and some of the others in this 1935 set are kinda weird but this one was just too cute to pass up. If you're familiar with 1948 Bowman's (think Musial rookie) this card is just about the same size

Bargain Hunting on eBay #4 I'm a Devil
I've been playing a little game on eBay recently. Call it my e-version of the dime box. Call it I don't have much money for cards but I still love buying them. I picked this one up for 11 cents shipped. Blue and red are my favorite colors and this one is nice and shiny, ooohhh!. Zubrus passed the 1100 games played mark this season.
Dainius seems to love coffee as much as Jim Palmer loves pancakes.
