Do It Yourself COMC Pack #17/35 Legends

I recently had 8 months worth of Check Out My Cards purchases shipped.  I divided the 153 cards into 35 groups.  I like to think of these as hand picked "packs".   I'm posting them in random order.  "Pack" #17, 4 cards, was $1.21 including shipping.

Smiling Stan the Man

Cy looks kind of blind here.

Christy was one of the First Five in Cooperstown.  Still have to put him up there with the best

Another of the First Five.  Only Cy Young won more games.

March 4, 1963

April 12, 1964

If you want a good read about Sandy Koufax I highly recommend this one. It alternates biography with an inning by inning account of Sandy's perfect game against the Cubs on Sept. 9, 1965.

Last week was brother Frank's birthday, today it's Lester Patrick, born in 1883. Like his brother, Lester is also a member of the Hall of Fame.

Half of the pre-fab four, The Monkees, share a birthday today.

Michael Nesmith turns 69

Hall of Fame Green Bay Packers linebacker Ray Nitschke was born in Elmwood Park, Illinois on this date in 1936.

"It was the character of the Packers, man. We played for sixty minutes. We let it all hang out. There was no tomorrow for us. We got the adrenaline flowing, and we just let it go, man."
Ray at the University of Illinois

"I'm not a madman."

Actress, Mary Tyler Moore is celebrating her 75th birthday today.

Mary is unusual in having had tremendous runs in two different sit-coms, first as Laura Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show and then as Mary Richards on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. It always seemed like two different actresses to me, though the roles were not that far apart in time. Maybe the characters were just so different or the change from B&W to color. ???

Sam "Mayday" Malone on Cheers, Ted Danson turns 64 today.
Ted received 11 consecutive Emmy nominations for his role on Cheers.

Card of the Day

I found this card in a Fairfield repack that a well meaning relative gave me for Christmas.

I don't recall seeing this card before.  My first thought is that Rick looks like Gulliver looking down at the Lilliputians.  A little crazily at that.

R I C K spells trouble.  Maybe he just thinks Mark Grace needs a little cooling off!  Watch the hair!
