Fun with 1973-74 Topps Hockey

Well, fun for me.  You may just think I'm an idiot.

"I play for the Flames 'cause I'm hot!"
"Party on Wayne."
Winner of the Joe Piscopo look-alike contest.
Winner of the Bob Newhart look-alike contest

"I can't tell where my beard ends and my chest hair begins."
Escape from Planet of the Apes
Winner of the John Denver look-alike contest
"My little brother's a better goalie but check out my hair."
I don't think the kids are going to be learning much as they run screaming from the classroom.
(Fill in the blank)

My Team is Floundering but I Still Love Hockey Cards

For my money there's no better set on the market than Upper Deck Hockey.  My first two posts featured Original Six  and Goalies.  Here are the rest of my favorites from Series One.  I have reason to believe a set of Series Two is in my future (another gift--someone got another year older this week) so stay tuned.

Cubs Scrapbook March 26, 1969

I'm a few days early but I have time today.  Here's the first entry from a set of scrapbooks I won on Ebay last summer.

"Pennant May be Sprouting in the Vally of the Sun".  "This is the Year".  Those could easily be headlines pulled from today's paper.  In this case they come from the date below.

Jim never did get another chance.

Durocher may have been getting a lot out of his team, but personality-wise he was no Joe Maddon.  Many of the players hated him.

Just a Tease

I hinted in my 2016 Goals post about a Cubs item that I'd be sharing.  This
seems like a good time.  I honestly haven't prepared anything yet but here's a tease:

Ceci N'est Pas une Piece de Monnaie

Sorry.  If you're looking for more Heritage I don't have any.  All I have are some beat up old cards from the 80's--------------- the 1880's!

These 8 cards are from the 50 card set, Coins of All Nations (N72) from 1889.  I love the artwork though I would assume there's something here that would offend someone.

Here's one back with the checklist.
And all eight backs.

In case anyone wonders about my title it's a takeoff on this painting by Magritte:
