Blow Out the Candles September 11

Legendary Cowboys head coach Thomas Wade Landry was born  in Mission, Texas on this date in 1924.

As a 19 year old Tom joined the Army Air Corp.  The Second Lieutenant flew 30 missions over Europe as a B-17 co-pilot.
"If you are prepared, you will be confident, and will do the job."

"Leadership is a matter of having people look at you and gain confidence, seeing how you react. If you're in control, they're in control."
"Roger Staubach might be the best combination of a passer, an athlete and a leader ever to play in the NFL."
"Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable."

  1. Is that photo of Landry, Lombardi, et. al. from the NY Giants? At first I was wondering why they were all wearing Yankees jackets, and then I looked closer and realized the NY logo is similar to but not identical to the Yankees.

I sometimes think we're missing out by not having coaches dress better, but until Nike and Under Armor start making suits, then we're stuck with the status quo.

  2. Yes those are the NY Giants coaches. Landry was the defensive coordinator while Lombardi coached the offense. And I guess the days of the well dressed coach are over. How about those pictures of Connie Mack with the suits and high collar managing the A's (though he was the exception even then I think).
