The Little Painting That Launched a Thousand Parodies

Today being artist Grant Wood's birthday I can't help thinking of his most famous (though not my favorite) painting, American Gothic.

This little painting, which hangs in the Art Institute of Chicago, must be the most parodied work of art in American history.

Here's a sampling.  Do you have a favorite?

  1. My personal favorite is the original. The Beavis and Butthead and Simpsons versions are nice too.It must have taken a lot of time to do those murals on the side of those houses.

Which painting of his is your favorite?

  2. I like all of the landscapes. "January" is great and I also love "Paul Revere's Ride". All we have at the AIC is American Gothic. It would be nice to see a big exhibit of his works in person.
